THISTLE - Concert of Edgar Allen Poe poems

  • Island Cemetery Newport 30 Warner Street Newport, RI 02840 USA (map)

THISTLE is original harp and voice based music for orchestral instruments, inspired by the South Indian, western classical, jazz, and folk genres.

The THISTLE Trio will perform at Belmont Chapel, joined by internationally accomplished percussionist Roxann Jurkevich, who served for decades as Principal Percussionist of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and has performed with artists including Enya and Sting, and flutist Dominique Gagne, a veteran professional musician who has performed in New York City jazz clubs and around the world for decades.

The centerpiece of the program will be Mysterious Star: A Tribute to Poe, a chamber album inspired by the haunting stories and poetry of Edgar Allan Poe. The approximately 50-minute performance features four songs with lyrics inspired by Poe’s stories and five settings drawn from his poems, creating an atmospheric musical journey through his mysterious and imaginative world.
